10.00 – 10.30: Inspectorate, Department of Education will discuss their findings from Junior Cycle Business Inspections and their ‘Looking at Business’ publication.

Oide: Junior Cycle Business Studies
This workshop will support teachers in exploring themes such as Globalisation and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and potential links to the Learning Outcomes within the Junior Cycle Business Studies specification, specifically Learning Outcome 3.7.
Facilitated by the Oide Business Team with guest speaker Breda O’Sullivan, Corporate Strategy and Planning at IDA Ireland. Breda will provide teachers with valuable insights into the opportunities of FDI and its role in fostering economic growth and stability and the challenges and opportunities it presents to Ireland’s economy and businesses alike.
Junior Cycle Business Studies – Approaching Accounting and Economics
This workshop will explore Accounting and Economics in the Junior Cycle Business Studies classroom.
Facilitated by Rachael Biddulph, Business & Maths teacher in Dominican College, Dublin and Lisa Young, Business & Geography teacher in Salerno College, Galway. Both are teachers of Junior Cycle Business Studies.
Leaving Certificate Accounting
This workshop will discuss the teaching of Interpretation of Accounts for Leaving Certificate Higher Level Accounting.
Facilitated by Alan Ryan, Accounting teacher in St. Augustine’s College, Dungarvan. Sinead O’Donovan, President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants will share key points of their submission on the proposed new Accounting specification.
Leaving Certificate Business – ABQ
This workshop will explore Units 1, 2 & 3 which are examinable for the Applied Business Question in Leaving Certificate 2024.

Leaving Certificate Business – Interactive Strategies and Group Learning in the Business Classroom
This workshop will focus on plenary activities and cooperative learning strategies in the Business classroom.

Leaving Certificate Economics – Incorporating current affairs into classroom teaching, learning and assessment
This workshop will examine how to adapt current affairs stories for use in teaching and learning to create exam-style questions which will empower students to become more active and dynamic learners.

Leaving Certificate Economics – The paper and research study: reflecting on four years of the new specification
This workshop will provide valuable insights into the allocation of marks in the Leaving Certificate Economics project focusing on different sections from the perspective of the examiner.
Facilitated by Pat O’Leary, Economics teacher in Coláiste an Chraoibhin, Fermoy. Pat has extensive experience in marking the Leaving Certificate Economics paper as well as presenting to Economics teachers around Ireland.

Introduction to Tax TY: Learn about Revenue’s new Introduction to Tax module for TY students, which is based on common tax scenarios encountered by young adults today. It aims to assist teachers in preparing their students for real-life scenarios in which they may encounter tax, such as the world of work and online shopping.
